German Open – Slovenian Teams on Top of the podium

German Open National Championship took part on beautiful Lake Walchensee. German Seascape 18 owners have been joining the Nationals since 2012.

Before the German Nationals, German SSC18 Class Association organized a training week for all owners who wanted to prepare themselves for the race, regardless of their sailing experience. 12 boats joined the training, improving their skills, meeting other owners and enjoying the beauty of Walchensee.

The location and the date of this years German Nationals proved to be an excellent choice. Even-though we are not used to having summer regattas, this was a perfect choice in terms of weather and wind, as well as very convenient for family teams which sometimes can’t join other events. Lake Walchensee was the perfect location for the event, not only for its perfect sailing conditions, but also clear water and amazing scenery.

Teams from all over Europe joined the event – Germany, Slovenia, Netherlands and Austria. During three days 23 teams sailed 9 races in great weather conditions with 10-20 knots of wind. Speed challenge, a new concept which was tested last year on our Seascape Cup and Seascape Challenge, was also added to the total score on German Nationals.

Slovenian team Blue Sardina with Dejan Presen and Denes Szilagyi was dominating most of the event, wining the first place overall after three days of sailing. Three teams had a close fight for the podium, with another Slovenian team, Jure Jerkovič and Urška Košir who took the second and the team from Nederland on the third place with Nikki Schuttrups, Ton van Liebergen and Robert Jan Kentgens. German team with Anne Kruger, Mathias Busch and Tom Bollmann ended up on the fourth place overall, but winning the title of the new German National Champion! Congratulations to all teams on great sailing and creating another amazing event in Germany!
